[News] Google: Simplifying access to search results (BETA)

Google announced in its blog its intention to add a feature to its search engine that will provide more context for search results. This means that you will be able to learn more about the search result, the website where it appears, and the source of this information.

Objective?

The aim is to make users more familiar with websites they may not necessarily recognise.

«But there's also a ton of interesting information and services on sites you may never have discovered before,» Google said in a blog post. «And while you can always use Google to do additional research on these sites, we're working on a new way to help you find useful information without having to do another search.».

How does it work?

Starting today, users will see a menu icon next to «most results on Google». Click on it and you will get more information. According to Google, this new setting will allow users to make more informed decisions about the sites they visit.

Information on websites will be drawn from Wikipedia, which Google says will provide the most recent verified information and sources available. «If it's a site you've never heard of before, this additional information can give you an idea or reassure you, especially if you're looking for something important, such as health or financial information,» Google said.

If a website does not have Wikipedia information, Google will include additional content.

For job searches and company listings, Google has indicated that it will include information on how the company obtains this information. Before visiting a website, Google will also indicate whether it is secure through the use of HTTPS protocol.

Is it available in France?

You can start learning more about research today in English in the United States on desktop, mobile, and the Google App on Android. Google has not announced when these features will be rolled out in France or other countries around the world.

To conclude

Today's update follows a major overhaul of Google Search on mobile and demonstrates the importance of UX for Google.
